About the Author

Samuel Nelson Bernier is a Canadian industrial designer and le FabShop's creative director since January 2013. He is a graduate of the University of Montreal where he excelled with his exceptional educational journey: Winner of the Lieutenant Governor's Medal, 2010 personality of the year and winner of the the Be Open Award in London. In 2012, he was invited by the Autodesk group to be an artist in residence in San Francisco. He wrote the memoir Project RE_, DIY in Digital Age, which followed his journey through the world of Makers and FabLabs. It was this same year that he met Bertier Luyt, a French entrepreneur who invited him to join his business project, le FabShop. Samuel N. Bernier is also a teacher at the Domus Academy in Milan for a workshop that he is giving on the theme of "Makers." In August 2013, the British magazine ICON chose the young designer for its "Future 50" list of the best-known emerging creators.

Bertier Luyt is a professional maker-entrepreneur, self educated, father of two kids. After a career in music, in the early 2000s, he turned his career toward design and designing professional spaces, an activity for which he started using SketchUp. Bertier Luyt's expertise was recognized in 2010 when he gave a conference at Google Sketchup 3D Basecamp about "3D modeling for digital manufacturing", at a time when the first 3D printers aimed at the general public made their appearance in the United States.After attending his first Maker Faire in New York in 2011, he launched leFabShop, a 3D modeling and digital fabrication studio, in early 2012 in France. Early works include 3D modelling the Palace of Versailles for the Google Cultural Institute. Bertier has written other books on 3D printing and 3D modelling; he's also been a speaker at different conferences such as MakerCon, TEDx, Hello Tomorrow, and Trimble Dimension. His favorite topics are digital manufacturing, self-empowerment and entrepreneurship. In 2013, he organized France's first Mini Maker Faire in Saint-Malo and created SWF: the first Eco-friendly sea-weed 3D printing filament. He is the producer for Maker Faire in France.

An illustrator and computer graphics designer first, following a successful career in multimedia visual communication at the Olivier de Serres school, Tatiana Reinhard, moved by her passion for the image, began a masters degree in Arts and Technology of the Image and became a 3D generalist for video and real time. A compulsive dabbler, passionate geek, and curious about new technologies, she works on the ongoing industrial revolution through the emergence of FabLabs and 3D printing. After teaching CAM at the University of Paris-8, she applied to le FabShop, wanting to test her knowledge as a virtual technician in a digital manufacturing studio. Today, Tatiana is a designer and creative at le FabShop. She also provides professional training to businesses going into 3D printing.

Excellent 3D printing beginner's book

Like all "Make" books, this is clearly written and profusely illustrated. It's very much for beginners and covers a lot of the free tools available from various companies but I found it to be a great resource and a valuable addition to my 3D printing book collection.

If you are into 3D printing I would put this on the must read list. Mostly an overview, but some details too. I work w Solidworks and Fusion 360, built and run a REPRAP (Mendelmax1.5) 3D printer and work with a few print services. This book is good for entry level and experienced users.

Great eBook

A steal for the price. This is an extensive and long eBook with strategies covering different time frames. The systems are robust and well explained with examples. You need to read the book several times to get the most from it. You will also need to practice a lot to become proficient but that is true of any strategy. I also notice there is a supporting website with a contact email address. The strategies are complete and given the different time frames and currency pairs, set up opportunities are abundant.

The best and also simplest bread recipe in the World.

I got sucked into the international whirlwind of no- knead artisan bread when Jim Layhey published his recipe and u-tube video through the New York Times. It is now the only way I make bread and his book "My Bread" is my bible. However, I came across Artisan Bread with Steve on u-tube recently and I liked the way he extended Jim Lahey's bread revolution even further by developing lots of ideas for flavouring the bread and using the basic bread recipe to make other things, like pretzels, pizzas etc. The only thing I disagree with him about is cooking time, my preference is for more cooking time to get a crunchy crust as Lahey recommends, but that's personal. I would highly recommend Steve's u-tube tutorials and his bread book if you are keen to make the easiest bread in the World, possibly the easiest cooking recipe full stop. I mix my dough in the evening and cook it the next day whenever it suits me. I now prefer to cook in pyrex rather than my cast iron pot, so you don't need anything expensive to cook bread. I would also recommend you check out the New York Times no-knead bread recipe on u-tube which started this whole phenomenon and give it a go -even/especially if you have never cooked bread before. It is no fail if you follow the recipe and it will be better than any bread you have bought from a shop. Thanks Steve and Jim.

No Knead Dough Recipe Book

I've been baking no knead breads for over 5 years and I use various methods, books, videos to get the recipes. A lot of times I just take the conventional method and convert it to no knead. The problem with just the one method Steve uses is you should not leave dairy in a dough to proof on the counter for 12 to 18 hours. That is why I use Artisan Bread in 5 as another method, the dough proofs than goes in the Fridge overnight. So you are able to use egg, milk, butter etc.

A lot of Steve's recipes are based on Lahey's method of flour, water yeast and salt. In using this method, say for dinner rolls, they lack butter, milk, egg etc which makes a good dinner roll. In other words, the dough is not enriched like you can do with another no knead method that goes in the Fridge to proof. Except for shapes and some toppings, the dough is the same. I followed Steve on YouTube also, but I have Lahey's book and Artisan Bread in 5 by Hertzberg and Francois book, which I purchased from Amazon. I use both methods, but mostly ABin5 as it is more versatile. Try the olive oil dough from that book. Great for olive bread and pizza.

Compare Steve's recipe for dinner rolls and Ciabatta rolls, they are very close and the recipe for Ciabatta is not how it is made. The dinner roll recipe is another story. For most of us, that's not the dinner roll we all know and love. Do your homework as I have done for over 5 years if you like no knead. This is Jim Lahey's basic recipe but I would not make Ciabatta as shown or make dinner rolls and cinnamon buns with this dough, they need to be enriched.

Steve's basic recipe (Lahey) is a great way for some breads and rolls and Steve puts out a good video to learn this method. This is a good method if you want to start or get back into bread baking as Steve mentioned. The round peasant bread made in the Dutch oven is the bread I grew up eating. It's typical of Italian Bread and the one I make the most using this method.

I just got a new hobby.

I came across one of Steve's no knead bread utube videos and found it very well made, right to the point. Steve is a master at his craft and teaches us we too can master the no knead mesthod of bread making. I bought his book so I would have a ready reference on hand while producing some of the finest bread I can remember. You will love his book and handy links to his u tube videos. My heart felt thanks to Steve for giving me a new hobbie that I don't need to toss hunderds of dollars at.

Johan Egerkrans is a Swedish illustrator who has been a professional illustrator for over 15 years, providing illustrations and art for games, comics, films, fashion, and books. In 2013 he wrote and illustrated Nordiska Vaesen, about creatures in Scandinavian folklore. Johan lives in Stockholm.

Quirky, tedious, fun, cumbersome..

The game is pretty simple. The premise is amazing. The editing is horrid. This feels like it was conceived in a weekend and Andrea and co just rushed it to the printers before any playtesting or thought to layout was done. I was hoping it would be sci-fi Frostgrave but it is, from release, in need of a second edition to include all of the things that were very quickly pointed out in the Facebook group as shortcomings (including errata and FAQ).
That said, this game is still worth a look. If you can deal with extremely bad layout (seriously, there is so much wasted space per page, this thing could've been a pamphlet). You will also need to dig through the Facebook group for the official errata and FAQ plus some additional gear. I would buy a revised edition tomorrow if it included all of these things and they cleaned up the layout.

Of note: There are numerous scenarios that require specific terrain elements. If you don't enjoy that sort of thing, this might also not be for you.. but if you like the extra weekend projects, pick it up :D

Excellent Sci-Fi skirmish rules

Read through this yesterday evening and promptly got online and ordered a set of Sci-Fi minis for it (based solely on what I thought looked cool, because with Rogue Stars that's really all that matters in your minis).

Well thought out rules with a real RPG feel; gave me a bit of a Necromunda RPG/wargame mashup vibe (minus the grimdark). Squads of between 5-6 minis with a cool selection of skills and gang themes (miners is an option for my fellow Squat enthusiasts!).

Excellent art, and good photos of well painted minis designed by North Star for the game. I will probably cop a few of those as well eventually.

I am new to Osprey, but if they put out more stuff like this and Frostgrave I can see myself becoming a pretty loyal customer.

This book is very cool. It allows the use of any miniature in your collection. The rules are a bit to get a handle on so if you need help check for me at my forum at spectrestudios.us. We cover it! We are also going to do videos on it. Company delivered it in mint condition, was very pleased
