There is an expanding body of clinical research that appears to support the model provided here. The training guidelines outlined in Neurological Rehabilitation are based on biomechanical constructs and motor relearning research, applied to enhance brain reorganization and muscle contractility, and encourage functional recovery of the patient. It connects science and clinical practice enabling students and practitioners to develop their knowledge and use new clinical methods based on modern scientific understanding.

This book has the great advantage of explaining in a very easy way (what is good for students) the basis of neurological rehabilitation, with very useful cues of what to do in many special conditions as Parkinson's disease and cerebellar ataxia. But it is not a basic book only for students, the practical approaches and even the neuroscientific basis shown in this book can be very useful for experienced professionals also. It was a delightful experience to read this book. The reading is easy and the information, reliable.

When The Best Little Boy in the World was first published in 1973, Andrew Tobias could write about what it had felt like to begin to accept his homosexuality, but he couldn't bring himself to sign his own name to the book, for fear of embarrassing his parents. And so it was "John Reid" who became a hero to the thousands of gay males who found in this memoir a mirror for their own experiences.

Although the book appears rambling at times, Tobias always has a clear sense of where he wants to take readers with the story. He treats his closeted adolescence and college years, and his stumbling first attempts at "doing a thing" with other gay men, with a self-effacing humor that exposes his pain without descending into self-pity. And if his life seems fairly ordinary, apart from the sexual awakening ... well, that was the whole point. "You like and respect us when you don't realize we're gay," he writes in a new introduction, "so now please just continue to like and respect us once you do realize. It's not that big a deal."

It's still true.

I picked this book up last night and couldn't stop reading. I thought mine was a unique journey, but it's not. Mr. Tobias has already been there - about twenty five years ago. If you have a similar background - WASP, upper middle class upbringing, sports oriented - you'll likely find yourself in this book. Sure, he disparages other types of gay men, but that's what's so honest - he's telling you how he really feels, whether it's p.c. or not. Too many books about coming out tell you some perfect version of how you should feel.
My story is very much like this one, a long struggle within myself, a lot of dodging (the story about faking hookups with girls in college hit so close that my hands started shaking, as did the sinking feeling after college when everyone starts pairing up and getting married). Sure some things have changed since the 1970s, but a whole lot has not. The emotions and coping mechanisms for someone like myself are all still the same.
Coming out (recently) has been a struggle, mostly within myself. This book, since I relate to the author's socioeconomic background, carried a charge of recognition like nothing I've ever read before. This book has given me the hope to keep moving forward.

Her recent work has focused on performance art, installation art and the incorporation of found objects in painting.

If you haven't seen a speech therapist yet this will be an excellent read. If you have it may clarify some points that you are already familiar with. All in all it has great ideas for use at home with your child.

Gamification is a good strategy

As someone who works with kids often I love learning any little strategy I can to better their life. I want to educate myself so that I can enrich their lives as much as possible. One of my favorite aspects of this little book is the fact that Elise used gamification (transforming an exercise into a game) in order to get children to practice speaking skills without realizing it. I can attest that the very best way to get kids to do anything is to make it into a game.

The activities introduced are fun and very interactive

Got this book to help out my brother and sister-in-law whose daughter seems to be suffering from articulation disorder. And since I babysit my niece once in a while, I figured I should read about it too. This essential guide is indeed essential. The activities introduced are fun and very interactive, which helps the child feel motivated to participate and articulate. Will definitely do this the next time I babysit my niece.
