What a sin... and boy did I ...

What a sin...and boy did I suffer. So many gratuitous sex scenes that took forever to consummate!!!! Not enough meat in the storyline and then to top it all off there is a right out of left field "goal" that was so far fetched and not at all cultivated. And FYI, Pepper, members of MC gangs in Florida don't call each other "bloke."

Mixed emotions. I wanted to like it more than I did.

Sin and Suffer is a MC second-chance romance by Pepper Winters. The introductions of each chapter are in a flashback journal entry and alternating POV by Arthur “Kill” Killian, or Cleo Price.

This book picks up where Ruin and Rule ends. Cleo is has been taken by Dagger Rose and Arthur is in the hospital suffering from a head injury. Kill is looking for revenge. Cleo is looking for answers and the truth.

I had pre-ordered S&S, but when it arrived, I was ill and couldn’t read it. I got the audio book too. I HAD to know what was going to happen. I’m not sure if it was because I was listening to the story vs. reading it, I didn’t enjoy the story as much as the first. The narrator was excellent. I switched to reading when I felt better hoping it would help me become more engrossed in the story because you can read faster than you listen to an audio book. I think the mystery that was so engaging in the first wasn’t there in the second.

Without giving spoilers away, I thought the author did try to create the mystery with the Wall Street and Kill’s master plan. I found the master plan somewhat stretched believability even with the current state of the US political system. The whole Cleo/Rubix kidnapping, I found it situation odd. Kill and Cleo seemed off too. Kill was protective in ways that didn’t make sense. Cleo had legitimate reasons to be mad at him for HUGE things but always swept her feelings under the rug because of some excuse for him. The sexy parts were boring towards the end. While it was good and interesting, it wasn’t as engrossing and satisfying as R&R. I was kind of disappointed.

Summary
Sin & Suffer is the conclusion of Cleo and Arthur's story. After the first book, Ruin & Rule, we find female lead Cleo captured by a rival MC club. Arthur will stop at nothing to get her back. Despite his declining health, he leads his club on a mission to find her. Will he get there in time to save her? Will he be able to avenge her?

What Did I Think?
After not quite liking book 1, I find myself reading book 2. Why, you ask? Well, I'm a known book masochist, so that's a silly question. In all seriousness, I just can't seem to leave a story without reaching its conclusion. (I must have the whole story!) It's a matter of hours vested versus hours lost. And unfortunately for me, the finale did little to change my initial perspective and tipped the scales towards hours lost. I had to know regardless.

Hopefully you've seen the movie Austin Powers. Do you remember the ridiculous plot Dr Evil hashed out in the film? Do you remember how much you laughed as it was revealed because the sheer silliness of it made you giddy? Yes, well, reading this book, I had that same feeling. That free flowing laughter of a completely comical plot was ever present. I can't really describe the lengths of which this book hit the cheesy factor without spoiling it, so sadly, I must be vague in my description.

The revenge and vigilantism in this book skirt the fringes of my tolerance for fiction. From book 1, we already know the main lead is a millionaire math genius motorcycle club president in love with his newly found amnesiac soulmate from his past. However reaching this story line is, it doesn't begin to compare with the retaliation plan and reveal of government scandal in this book. (Let the record state, I find this book is way over the top!) I can't even embellish the rating with good sex because I couldn't bring myself to care. And it's a shame. The love scenes were beautifully written. They were passionate and sweet. They would be panty melting if it felt at all believable. This left me feeling cheated. If the story would have been better, the sweet words and passionate love shared between the main characters wouldn't have fallen on deaf ears. Instead, I gave my rolling eyes a workout.

I won't ramble on. I didn't care for either book in this series, but despite my less than favorable review of this story, Pepper Winters is a wonderful writer. And some people like coffee while others like tea, so I encourage you to read her story and review it for yourself. Perhaps you will find it a more pleasant read than I..

This is a fascinating book about a little discussed aspect of World War II. It talks about not just the military aspect of the issue, but the politics as well. This is a "must read" for those interested in radio propoganda.

This is a fascinating read about three people who broadcast propaganda on Axis radio in World War Two. It is a lively story that lays out their biographies as well as the very different outcomes that citizens in Allied countries accused of treason faced after the war. John Amery, a Nazi sympathiser, was executed in London; Charles Cousens, a POW in captivity in Tokyo, faced a treason trial in Australia after the war; and Iva Toguri--better known as "Tokyo Rose"-- a Japanese-American caught in Tokyo at the time of Pearl Harbour, was tried and, according to the author, wrongly found guilty as a traitor and jailed in the United States.

A reference book on measurement and evaluation for HR

"During the last decade, the Human Resources (HR) function experienced drastic change in its role, status, and influence". Jack J. Phillips writes, "Some HR executives recognized the change and stepped up to the challenge. A panel of top-level HR executives recently assembled by Personnel Journal agreed that HR is moving away from the transactional, paper-pushing, hiring/firing support function it has been and is becoming a bottom-line business decision maker...Peter Drucker predicted these changes in The Wall Street Journal over ten years ago when he asserted that the personnel department, in addition to changing its name to human resources, must behave quite differently and follow the line mode of behavior rather than the staff mode"(pp.1-5).And hence, he rightly argues that "from recent articles, reports, books, and interviews on the subject, seven trends can be identified that have a significant impact on an organization's bottom-line results and the HR function's role in the process. These trends include the increased importance of the HR function, increased accountability, organizational change and quality programs, improvement in productivity, adoption of HR strategies, growing use of HR's information systems, and reliance on partnership relationships. Collectively these trends enhance or complement the efforts of the HR department to monitor and improve its contribution to organizational performance" (pp.5-6).
Within this context, he divides his book into four parts as follows:
Part I- presents a general framework for evaluating the HR function (Chapters 1-2)
Part II- presents the issues involved in developing a results-based approach to HR (Chapters 3-4)
Part III- focuses on specific ways to measure the contribution of HR (Chapters 5-9)
Part IV- explores data analysis and presentation results.
One of the core concepts of the book, in Chapter 1, he focuses on paradigm shifts from traditional HR approach to a more results-based approach demanded in today's environment, and summarizes these paradigm shifts necessary for a results-based approach as follows:
Traditional Approach:
(1) New programs initiated by request or suggestion of any significant manager or group.
(2) A maltitude of programs in all areas.
(3) Existing programs are rarely, if ever, eliminated or changed.
(4) Count activities, hours of involvement, number of employees involved, etc.
(5) Limited management involvement in the HR process.
(6) HR viewed as cost center.
(7) HR staff unfamiliar with operations issues.
(8) HR staff lack knowledge of finance and business concepts.
Results-Based Approach:
(1) New programs initiated only after a legitimate need is established.
(2) Fewer programs with greater opportunity to make an impact.
(3) Existing programs are regularly reviewed and eliminated when necessary.
(4) Measure the impact of programs on the organization.
(5) Extensive involvement and collaboration with management.
(6) HR is viewed as an investment in employees.
(7) HR staff very knowledgeable about operations issues.
(8) HR staff versed in basic finance and business concepts.

This important work shows you how to take a results-oriented approach to human resources. It explains how to develop programs with an emphasis on accountability, determine the costs of HR programs, calculate the return on investment, design data collection instruments and techniques for evaluation, and strengthen management's commitment to HR efforts. The author presents a nine-step model to analyze, develop, and implement programs and illustrates its use. He also presents a methodology for measuring overall effectiveness of HR. This book shows how to benchmark against other organizations. Comprehensive and useful. Overall, tracking success is crucial for HR practitioners to understand and do! I am not sure what is going on with this book, but it looks like someone bought the rights to publish it, and I have a republished book (1996). Because the original book has a different publisher (1995). In any case, this is a good book pretty easy to understand and follow along.

essential reading

For any Catholic attempting to make sense of the current auto-demolition in the Catholic Church, Randy Engel's monumental work, The Rite of Sodomy is absolutely essential.
Although I was familiar with Engel's previous work and had great respect for her integrity and research skills, for years I resisted her books on the sexual abuse crisis in the Church. It was just a case of too much information about a subject that threatened to destroy my faith.
In addition, the very title, containing as it does a word I had difficulty even speaking aloud, much less enshrine on my bookcase, put me off.
But eventually, with about the same enthusiasm I have for cleaning up a patient's vomitus, I purchased and read the books.
And now, I can tell you, read The Rite of Sodomy for yourself, buy more copies and give them to Bishops, especially volume V.
Ms. Engel has produced a scholarly work that documents the downfall of the Catholic Church. Her work is almost mind-numbingly detailed and researched and documented. The footnotes and bibliography and index are possibly more extensive than the text itself.
Even if you aren't a Catholic, The Rite of Sodomy will shed valuable light on the processes going on today that are using same sex attraction to wreck our country's culture and push us all a bit further along the road to tyranny.
The one thing Ms. Engel omitted and I hope will address in a future book, is the connection between the Vatican's surrender to sodomy and the Message of Fatima. According to many sources, the apostasy would begin at the top, and sins of impurity would be the major problem. Both of those point to the possibility that the plague of sodomy in the Church is a part of the chastisement for the Church's disobedience.
It's really a shame that this review has to come from me. I am not very good at these things, but Ms. Engel's work deserves to be more widely read, and by posting this, I hope that others will read her books if only just to refute my poor efforts. I hope someone will, if you do, you'll understand why she chose that title and why she has spent years documenting this phenomenon and its toxic effects on the Church and our culture.

So much research and effort has gone into this series! It definitely needed to be written and is so professionally done. Randy Engel has provided enough information for any investigations to be pursued. Hopefully the hierarchy will READ it.

A Highly Researched Series on the Sexual Abuse of Children in the Catholic Church.

This review pretty much includes the whole series. FIrst of all, especially the last two installments, volumes 4 and 5, the data that Ms. Engel writes about, can be found in the numerous files on www.Bishopaccountability.org. The only reason I offer that link is that Ms. Engels' books were completed in the mid-2000's when most of the sexual abuse cases she describes weren't adjudicated before it went to press. Most of the individual abuser priest, nuns and brothers she presented in her books are not new to the reader who has kept up on the abuse scandal on their own. What is new is the intransigence of the Vatican prior to and after the heyday of the abuse, primarily in the late 60's through the 80's. Also, the bishops, archbishops and cardinals who were keeping the proverbial lid on the abuse needed to be arrested for allowing the abuse to be hidden.

As far as the accusations of homosexuality in the papacy are concerned, I'm still not convinced that Pope Paul Vi was homosexual. His actions and behaviors certainly pointed to being homosexual, but he had never been caught in the act of sex with another male. Of course that in itself is no indication of him leading a homosexual lifestyle, but it would make the Catholic church's stand on homosexual relationships considerably arrogant.

I enjoyed (if that is the correct way of describing a book that has descriptive homosexual acts) the books, but I thought the data needs to be updated by Ms. Engel's. I also might point out that Ms. Engel's is not a drive by journalist who wanted to grind her sword on her thigh, to steal a verse from the Psalms, she is a highly respected journalist and a staunch Catholic supporter of the Pro-Life movement, and it shows in her writing of these books.

I originally had to use this book for a course in bible college called, 'The Pentateuch'. At the time the book was just a textbook -- until I went back to it a few months or so ago. If you're wanting to understand the first 5 more clearly but don't want to spend the bucks this is the book for you.

Great for the price!

I got this book for a great price and it is brand new. It shipped super fast, but the only reason I did not give it a 5 star is because you have to be careful at the beginning and end of the book do that the pages to not pull away from the binding. I am very good with books and do not handle them hard at all, but the first 20 or so pages you have to really watch to make sure they do not detach from the spine binding. Other then that it wad in prefect condition abs it was a great price.

Meteorology Math for beginners

For years I was searching for a meteorology text which would explain in simple terms the mathematical aspects of synoptic meteorology in terms that I could understand. This book has really helped me understand the mathematics behind the dynamics and forecasting that I have been using for 20 years.

Excellent book. Very applicable to synoptic scale forecasting. Excellent treatment of dynamics. I am not sure why the author ordered the chapters the way he did - - I might suggest a couple other different ways to structure the material, which prevents it from being 5 stars, but it is still a good text.

This is a great textbook! Clear diction that is precise but avoids unnecessary jargon. I love that it's paperback, since it's still high quality but saves some money.
